Chic’s Beach is a waterfront neighborhood in Virginia Beach, Virginia that was developed in the early 1900s as a beachfront residential community. It is is a small beach in a residential neighborhood running on the east and west sides of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
What originated as a lookout post during war, the beach eventually turned to more recreational activities. It is a diverse area consisting of beach cottages, condominiums, townhouses, duplexes, apartments, and single-family homes. The beach community is bordered on the south by Shore Drive. Shore Drive is one of the corridors leading to the tourist destination of the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The residents of this community experience less public traffic due to restricted parking.
There is public access to the beach on virtually every street, where you can watch the sun set over the water while walking on the beach. The common activities of the neighborhood includes boating, jet skiing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, sailing, and walking the beach.
While the neighborhood is legally called Chesapeake Beach according to tax records and any search in the local MLS, Chic’s Beach is actually named after Chic Ledington who owned Chic’s Hot Dogs which is now Buoy 44 (more recently known as Alexander’s on the Bay until the Winter of 2013). Other neighborhood restaurants include HK on the Bay and Zia Marie.
If you’re looking for other great area places to eat and drink, look no further than The Rustic Spoon, Leaping Lizard Cafe, Mermaid Winery, Chick’s Oyster Bar, CP Shuckers, Commonwealth Brewing Co., and so much more!
Despite common misconceptions, Ocean Park, Baylake Pines, Lynnhaven Shores, and Cape Story are not a part of Chic’s Beach. Chic’s Beach runs from West of Pleasure House Road, North of Shore Drive, and goes until Baylake Pines to the East. It doesn’t stretch to Great Neck or the Lesner Bridge, something to keep in mind when talking to the locals!
