Located on the western side of the city of Norfolk, and surrounded by the Lafayette and Elizabeth Rivers, the neighborhood of Larchmont-Edgewater was established in the early 1900’s.
Initially mostly farmland, the area was built-up to accommodate visitors to the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. Early access to the neighborhood was by streetcar, on tracks running down what is now Hampton Boulevard (formerly Atlantic and Jamestown Boulevards).
Today, Larchmont-Edgewater is home to nearly 2,400 residences, including some of Norfolk’s most breathtaking waterfront homes.
Neighborhood activities throughout the year include the Larchmont-Edgewater Civic League Oyster Roast, the Larchmont Elementary Carnival, and nearby Old Dominion University football games. The neighborhood is also perfect for a quiet stroll down streets lined with historic magnolia trees dating back more than 150 years, as well as crepe myrtles and beautiful oak trees.
Are you looking to spend time by the water? Larchmont-Edgewater has plenty of waterfront park views at its most western points along the area that was formerly known as Edgewater Drive (now, long-since underwater) where you can watch jaw-dropping sunsets along the rivers. You can also wind down at the end of a long day watching boats pass by at the park benches on Carroll Place, not far from where the Lafayette River meets Knitting Mill Creek.
